Victoria’s Soundwalk

Being a person that walks regularly with earbuds in, I decided to give myself a challenge and not walk with my earphones the whole day. I wanted today to be a total sound walk.

It started out as a sound sit as a read a couple of articles with my windows open in my dorm room. I listened to the birds chirping as my fan blew fiercely. Then, I began walking to my class. I thought it was beautiful how the sounds of nature and the sounds of a busy college campus combined. I heard rustling footsteps as birds chirped and leaves blew in the wind. As well as friends laughing and enjoying a conversation with each other.

I also admired hearing my footsteps on different types of textures of the ground. As the day continued and I walked to my other classes and meetings, some times were quieter than others. Sometimes I would hear more of the sounds of nature and others I would hear the sounds of students rushing to class. I enjoyed actually being more aware of my surroundings rather than being plugged in. Usually when I listen to music, I feel as if I am a separate being from campus because I am in my own space and world. But today, it was different. I felt included in my surroundings and Mount Holyoke.
