I took a sound walk across campus across campus during the midmorning. One of the biggest things I noticed was that in the past, I did not notice the natural sounds around me as much as the man-made sounds. In the past, I seemed to notice the trucks and construction equipment much more than the insects and the birds. I’m not sure if the construction sounds are more distracting or disruptive than the natural sounds, or if they are simply louder. I also thought about how I seemed to walk during a quieter part of the day on campus. If I took my sound walk right after classes got out before lunch, I would have had a much different experience. In addition, I would probably have a much different experience if I was walking during a different season. I noticed the sound of leaves skating across the ground, and it made me think about how differently this walk could sound even just in a few weeks.
