Passing on the Knowledge and Wealth:
Most of the gifts passed on to the Mount Holyoke Collection by Caroline Ransom Williams were either a property of or obtained thanks to her aunt, Louise Fitz-Randolph. This collection include a great number of Egyptian Scarabs.

Pale buff scarab (dung beetle) Horizontally oriented base design of striding horse with transverse cartouche reading “Menkheperre” (Tuthmosis III) above the horse’s back and the hieroglyph nefer meaning “good” or “beautiful” in front. The horse in this case symbolizes the king. Two diagonal bands incised on the body of the horse, possibly representing trappings.
Finely carved with trapezoidal head, notched clypeus (foremost part of scarab beetle), and double division lines between thorax and wing-cases and separating the two wing cases. Base of scarab is plain.
