Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), previously known as the Bangladesh Cricket Control Board, is the main governing body of cricket in Bangladesh. BCB became a full member of the International Cricket Council on 26 June 2000. The Board has its headquarters in Dhaka, it is responsible for the operation and development of cricket, maintenance of venues, and selection for the national team. It is operated by the Government of Bangladesh.
Bangladesh hosted the first ever Mini-World Cup, known officially as the Wills International Cup. All test playing nations participated in the event based on knock-out format, which was won by South Africa. Bangladesh Cricket Board was much appreciated after successfully hosting an event of such scale and magnitude that involved the national teams of all test playing nations at that time.
The 16-nation Under-19 ICC Cricket World Cup was hosted by Bangladesh from 15 February and 5 March. The event saw many of the future stars in World cricket perform, and the colorful opening ceremony and overall organization of the mega-event by BCB was commendable.
Bangladesh was proud to co-host the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011 alongside India, and Sri Lanka from 19th February to 2nd April. Having successfully hosted the grand opening ceremony and 8 matches that included all Bangladesh’s group matches plus two quarter finals, BCB’s credentials in being able to host the greatest cricketing event was unveiled in flying colours.
It was time for Bangladesh to host a World Cup event on its own. The ICC World T20 saw Bangladesh hosting both the men’s and women’s events with extreme efficiency and hospitality. It was the greatest honor received by BCB to be able to successfully manage the tournament which was won by Sri Lanka.
