A new summer means fresh MHC (and Smith!) faces here at Beida!
First off, future summer Beida-MHC students, preparations must be made.
- WeChat is king. Seriously.
- Check the air quality daily!
- Download a Beijing subway app! (if you’re on Android, get it through Google Play before you leave)
- Currency exchange app for your late night runs to WuMei (you’ll understand…)
- VPN? Get it before you leave, and refer each other for bonuses (free month, etc)
And on to the meat of things:
CAMPUS.
It’s absolutely gorgeous and humongous, and so easy to get lost in . I’ve tried to fit in at least an hour’s worth of walking on good-weather, low key days (of which there are plenty). I’ve been taking roads that don’t look familiar, getting lost, and finally finding my way back in time for dinner, and there’s always something new every day.
Any spare moment I have goes to taking unfamiliar roads on Beida’s campus, which has led to a fair bit of interesting sights:
- a random area with outdoor exercise equipment
- a boat sitting underneath a bridge
- a very scenic pavilion over the water, but too many bugs for studying
- statues of famous people, i.e. that one people keep putting flowers on everyday
Spend more time just being here while you’re here.
For my next post, expect cats. And off campus explorations!
