As important as it was to build Black presence and community on campus, it was also necessary to change the academic program and administrative structure to reflect the reality and diversity of both the College and the world. These steps included the creation of a Black Studies department, the hiring of Black faculty, and the adding of materials and resources to the library, all of which was done through the persistent work of students, faculty, and staff.
