Takeaways—Tues

  1. I found out that I really like experimental prose! Surprisingly, this was my favorite week in non-fiction! Short Talks was also one of my favorite readings so far. Writing our own and then writing one with someone else’s prompt was fascinating. The discussion we had after that exercise made me think about how we view writing and how personal it is for everyone. All the prompts were interpreted differently depending on who wrote them which just highlights this! Thinking about how we view our ideas and how it feels to share them or give them to others to work with is not something I have spent much time considering before!

  2. I loved reading everyone’s essays! It was interesting to see how people approached writing creative nonfiction – there was a wide range of topics and styles. I found the full class workshops to be generative but a bit intense. I look forward to seeing what the dynamic will be like in the small group workshops on Tuesday.

  3. I really liked the name writing prompt that we did. I wrote about my last name but it was cool to think about potential names or what our names mean to us. I want to do more of those in the future!

  4. I loved reading everyone’s pieces and seeing everyone’s writing style. I am also looking forward to continuing big group and small group discussions as well as revising my piece based on the feedback I received.
