Over-crowding in Morenth in the mid-fourth century caused the Berlnoth faction to leave in search of a new home. The expedition is presumed lost, until in 593 CE, envoys return with news that the expedition survived, found an uninhabited mountain range, the Wernt Mountains, to the south, and were declaring independence from Morenth. Morenth attempted to content Baern‘s independence, but the passing of the Second Dragon King of Morenth changed the political landscape granting Baern the opportunity to gain true national independence.
