Drekim

The oldest currency on the continent, Drekim are believed to have originated during the Age of Serpents. It comprises five denominations, beginning with base eight before changing to base four from Achiuter to Charibpox. Each denomination is a bead of different metal kept in strands, though there are some examples of Drekim made from other materials from previous ages. Most strands are strung with four or eight beads to make exchange and trade easier.

About the Denominations

The unit denomination is Maosoe.

Maosoe

Small iron beads approximately 0.5 inches in diameter, Maosoe are the smallest denomination and the most frequently used in trade. The word, ‘maosoe,’ derives from the words ‘blue’ and ‘garnet’ in Draconic, having once been crafted with blue stones, and is pronounced: mous-oo-way (/ɱaʊsʊe/)

Prai

These large brass beads approximately 1 inch in diameter, while not the most frequently used, are very common and are favored in exchange rates with other currency. The word, ‘prai,’ derives from the words ‘black’ and ‘lightning’ in Draconic. It is theorized that Prai were once made of black opals, though no such artifacts confirm this. The word is pronounced: praw-ee (/prɑɪ/)

Achiuter

These gold and brass beads are approximately 1.5 inches in diameter but, unlike other Drekim, are flatten disks. They are used in more expensive purchases. The word, ‘achiuter,’ derives from the words ’emerald’ and ‘scales’ in Draconic, perhaps having once been made of emeralds or another substance carved into disk, or scale-like, shapes. The word is pronounced: aw-shee-oh-tair (/aʃɪoter/)

Charibpox

Charibpox are gold-silver beads approximately 0.75 inches in diameter and are most frequently used to transport wealth over large distances. The word, ‘charibpox,’ derives from the phrase ‘red diamond’ in Draconic and is likely named for the rarity of such gems. This used to be the largest denomination of Drekim. Charibpox is pronounced: chahr-ee-puhook (/ʃarɪ ʼbpʊk/)

Ileaqu

These beads are white gold reinforced with silver and measure approximately 0.75 inches in diameter. This denomination was introduced by the Morenth mints in 613 C.E. as a means to undercut the newly established Baern economy and make it reliant on the older nation’s trade. However, Baern increased its trade with Gloff, stabilizing its economy. Over a century later, Baern began to mint ileaqu as well. It is named ‘rare jade’ for a stone once thought a myth and it is pronounced: eel-ley-uhk-oo (/ɪleaqo/)
