Cuttlefish Cove

Cuttlefish Cove is a small port town in the Cinan Islands named for the cove in the middle of the town. The settlement was built some time ago around the cove itself. With a population of only a hundred people or so, everyone knows everyone and the community is incredibly tight knit. The most common trading partners of the townspeople are the sailors who regularly dock in the port to rest between stops. Because of its lack of wealth and excitement, pirates rarely dock here, but it has been known to happen on occasion.

The main trade of the townspeople is fishing. The cove itself and the waters beyond are a breeding ground for cuttlefish, hence the name, and a variety of other marine life can be found within. Most of the fish, crustaceans, and cuttlefish caught by fisherman are sold directly to the people of the town, to whom fish is a vital part of their daily diet. Very little is exported due to the threat of pirates in the open ocean.

The largest business in the port was once the popular tavern, The Hair of the Sea Dog, owned by a woman named Maria, before it was attacked by the crew of The Silent Song. It offered home cooked food, courtesy of their live-in chef whose specialties included fried cuttlefish, cuttlefish stew, and cuttlefish linguine, as well as various other non-cuttlefish-based dishes. They imported a number of ales from elsewhere on the Cinan Islands (when the orders actually arrived and weren’t stolen on the high seas) as well as brewing their own house ale. The tavern was the regular hangout and meeting point for many of the townspeople after a hard day’s work and had a number of rooms available to visiting sailors or those too drunk to make it home.

There are a small series of caves which lead to still more underwater caves in the cove which the more adventurous children often explore despite the warnings of their parents. The children often hear strange sounds within the caves but whether these noises were just their minds playing tricks on them or something more sinister has never been determined.
