Hapina

A monarchy whose largest underground organization just collapsed and causing a power vacuum. From these troubles, war has sprung and the formerly peaceful nation of a few years back is in utter chaos. Many citizen currently flee, either north in the hope that those nations will take the refugees or south for the anti-slavery lands.

History

Hapina was established in 1050 after the fall of Galanese, as it was a former Galanese colony. The nation continued with its slavery economy set up when it was a colony and continued to raid into Hearqiasha to continue to support its economy.

After the Division War in Mel, Hapina’s trading relationship with Mel increased as the last two slave kingdoms on the western peninsula. Both Farshno and Baern have made many attempts over the past century to try and convince Hapina to abandon its economy base and free its slaves. Hapina has made no such move to transition and tensions rose. Early in 1223 CE, the black-market trade in Hapina experienced a sudden boom, causing an influx of illegal trades across Nachaypal, to the dismay of Farshno and Baern. The neighboring nations entreated Hapina to shut down the underground networks. Hapina’s government refused as the trade brought in a glut of wealth. Thus, on the 4th of Ivirn in 1223 CE, Farshno declared war.

Historical Speculation

In the spring of 1223 CE, a major underground syndicate, the Blood Guard, was raided and disbanded after the death of a member, Talaim. The vacuum in the black-market caused by the collapse is thought to be the hidden start of the war.
