Finding out the old woman who wants to marry you is really your long-lost mother?
Hiding the teenager who’s got a crush on you behind the chair when your boss walks in, then your boss (who also has a crush on you) tries to hide behind the same chair when the nosy neighbor stops by?
We’ve all been there.

Disguises, secret letters, cross-dressing, slapstick, embarrassment, infidelity, redemption . . .
Wolfgang Amadé Mozart’s 1786 opera Le nozze di Figaro (The Marriage of Figaro) has it all.
And in February 2026, it’s coming to the Five Colleges!
In this companion website to the Five College Opera production of Le nozze di Figaro, students in Adeline Mueller’s Mount Holyoke College Fall 2025 course Music Analysis: Mozart’s Marriage of Figaro take you on a tour of the characters, costumes, historical references, and highlights of Mozart and librettist Lorenzo da Ponte’s enduring opera buffa (comic opera).
Meet the cast and creatives, find out which Figaro character matches your personality, and hear some of Mozart’s effervescent music for the story of four pairs of lovers sorting themselves out over one “crazy day.”
Browse our website, and enjoy the opera!
