    \/do-mi-na\/ > \/Do-m-na\/ syncope of unstressed vowel.<\/span><\/p>\n

    Assimilation of bilabial m to n in place of articulation of nasal, alveolar n.<\/span><\/p>\n

    Donna \/Do-nna\/ > Duenna \/dwe-nna\/ dypthongization of low mid back \/c\/ from latin short \/o\/ into \/we\/ \/\u201cue\/\u201c<\/span><\/p>\n

    Duenna \/dwe-nna\/ > Due\u00f1a \/dwe-na\/ by polarization of cluster \/nm\/ to create new nasal palatal \/n\/. Creation of new nasal palatal \u00f1 \/ny-a\/<\/span><\/p>\n

    2. Enbiar.<\/span><\/p>\n

    Etymon: Inviare<\/span><\/p>\n

    Inviare > Enbiar > enviar<\/span><\/p>\n

    In-wi-are > En-wi-are by the evolution of the unstressed vowel \/i\/ high front to \/e\/ high mid front<\/span><\/p>\n

    En-wi-are > En-bi-are shows the evolution of \/v\/ to \/b\/ in Spanish. No change in pronounciation\/grapheme. The \/b\/ and \/v\/ sound are indistinguishable.<\/span><\/p>\n

    the loss of word final \/e\/ high mid front [enbiar] > En-bi-are > en-bi-ar<\/span><\/p>\n

    This is the same sound just a different grapheme from old to new Spanish as in modern Spanish it is [enviar]<\/span><\/p>\n

    3. Jodios.<\/span><\/p>\n

    Judaeus \/ju-daj-us\/ > Jodios \/jo-d\u00ed-os\/ > Judious \/xu-d\u00ed-os\/<\/span><\/p>\n

    \/iu-dae-us\/ > \/iu-daj-os\/ shows the typical evolution of the word-final high back vowel \/u\/ to the high-mid back vowel \/o\/ that is common from old to modern Spanish.<\/span><\/p>\n

    \/iu-daj-os\/ > \/xu-daj-os\/ via palatization. Demonstrates the original creation of a yod,\u00a0 \/i+vowel\/, in this case \/iu\/, becomes \/x\/.<\/span><\/p>\n

    \/xu-daj-os\/ > \/xo-daj-os\/ palatalization of the short stressed high back vowel \/u\/ to the high-mid back vowel \/o\/.<\/span><\/p>\n

    4. Veo.<\/span><\/p>\n

    Etymon: Vidre > Ver [ber].<\/span><\/p>\n

    The stressed syllable is the antepenultimate \u201cVi,\u201d\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>syncope of the unstressed high mid front vowel \/e\/ in the penultimate syllable \u201cDe\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n

    5. Videre > Vidre.<\/span><\/p>\n

    Shows a typical evolution from vulgar Latin to Spanish, the stressed high front vowel \/i\/ evolves into the high-mid front vowel \/e\/ vidre > Vedre<\/span><\/p>\n

    The voiced\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>consonant \/d\/ is in a word-medial cluster, \u201cdr,\u201d and is postvocalic, which means it undergoes lenition. This results in the weakening of the \u201cd\u201d\u00a0<\/span>until deletion: Vedre > Vere.<\/span><\/p>\n

    Word final high-mid vowel \/e\/ lenites and is then deleted, which results in Vere > Ver.<\/span><\/p>\n

    7. Buena.<\/span><\/p>\n

    Etymon: Bona.<\/span><\/p>\n

    Bona > Buena [bwena]<\/span><\/p>\n

    The low-mid back short vowel \/o\/ diphthongizes to \u201cue\u201d [we]. This type of evolution is typical from Latin to Spanish. The word final low center vowel \/a\/ remains.<\/span><\/p>\n

    Bona [bona] > Buena [bwena].<\/span><\/p>\n

    8. Tempus > Tiempo.<\/span><\/p>\n

    Diphthongization of Latin stressed short E and O in closed syllables as well as open\u00a0in \u201ce\u201d to \u201cie\u201d and \u201cus\u201d to \u201co\u201d. In word final. This is a special case as the suffix -s denotes the plural form.<\/span><\/p>\n

    Tempus > Tiempos. This creates a plural noun, which caused speakers to create a new singular > \u201cTiempo\u201d. Which means the loss of the \u201cs\u201d (a weakened consonant) undergoes elision.<\/span><\/p>\n

    Kum-pli-tus > Kun-pli-tus when the consonant cluster \/MP\/ evolves to \/NP\/<\/span><\/p>\n

    Kun-pli-tus > Kun-pli-tu<\/span><\/p>\n

    word final loss of \/s\/.<\/span><\/p>\n
