The International Student Organizing Committee (ISOC) under the McCulloch Center for Global Initiatives, formerly known as the International Student Orientation Committee, began as a group dedicated to welcoming new international students to campus in 2013.
Originally focused on orientation, in 2013 ISOC grew into a year-round initiative dedicated to fostering a global community at Mount Holyoke. It became a bridge between international students, campus resources, and the wider student body, uplifting voices, supporting intercultural events, and celebrating the diversity that defines our campus. Starting in 2022, ISOC went through a significant transformation in both events and campus involvement. Gaining increased recognition across the college, it began organizing larger events in collaboration with major campus partners such as Dining Services and the Career Development Center. These partnerships helped expand its reach and make ISOC a more visible and impactful presence on campus. ISOC has long-held traditions that unite the international community. From welcoming new students during International Orientation to celebrating cultures at Global Fest (formerly the International Dinner), its events highlight connection, celebration, and belonging. Friendsgiving and the International Tassel Ceremony continue that mission by creating space for students to reflect, connect, and celebrate together. These gatherings strengthen international students’ global ties and create lasting memories across cultures and class years.
