ISOC hosted several open mic nights where students performed music and poetry. Past events include “Mother Tongue” (Fall 2016), “Building Bridges / Not Walls” (Spring 2017), and “Mother Nature” (Fall 2017).
These themes were often discussed during the ISOC meetings and chosen based on what felt most appropriate. For example, Marium Alibhai (Pakistan), class of 2019, the organizer of the “Mother Nature” open mic, explained in an interview with Mount Holyoke News, November 9, 2017, that the theme was inspired by the Puerto Rico relief fundraisers that were occurring on campus during the time.
