Mary&#8217;s mother, Jane, probably organized this quilting project with members of her group in or near Millville, New York.&nbsp;The top center square contains a unique Pythagorean Theorem design apparently embroidered by Mary\u2019s Aunt Emma Louise Gillette, Mount Holyoke Class of 1851.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We are grateful to Virginia Capan, Mary Matthews&#8217; grand niece to whom this quilt was willed, for loaning this beautiful artifact for the exhibition.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Examples of Mary Matthews&#8217; Letters and Diaries Click on the images below to read the documents in their entirety.
