How to Export & Import a WordPress Site
For students who are graduating from Mount Holyoke and are looking to use WordPress in an independent context, the export feature can be extremely useful. This will allow you to download all the content from your Commons or Folio site and import it into any site that you create. If you like the site that you have created while here at Mount Holyoke, this can be a good way to maintain all the hard work you put into it.
STEPS:
- First you are going to go under the “Tools” header on your dashboard.
- From there you will select “Export” from the drop down menu.
- You will be prompted to select what from the website you would like to export. You can choose to export just parts of the site, or you can select “All Content.” Then you will hit “Download Export File” at the bottom of the screen.
- Your site will now download as a file which should appear on the bottom of your screen or in your computer downloads section.
- From here you will switch over to the new website that you want to import the content onto. You will once again go under the “Tools” header, this time selecting “Import” from the drop down menu.
- For importing a WordPress site, you will select “Run Importer” under the WordPress section.
- You will then select the file from your computer files and then click on “Upload File and Import.”
- You can attribute this import of information to a specific user if you wish by using the given drop down list. This page will also give you an option to include all of the attached files from the imported site, which you can do by checking the given box.
- After hitting submit, you are done!
