The Truth of the Filter Gallery

At some point while watching the film, reading the catalog, or reflecting on the piece as a whole you may have sensed that something was off.

You would be correct.

The first installation in the Filter Gallery is about to go up.

This piece is actually designed to trick the eye. The Filter Gallery was a miniature work approximately 2 feet by 1 foot by 6 inches. The catalog, a final touch to make it appear real, does have accurate titles, dates, and artist statements. However some of the materials are faked and the artists themselves do not exist. Rather, the names for the artists were created to reference the location or inspiration that led to the work itself. After all, the Filter Gallery was for work inspired by the city of Edinburgh and was exhibited through the production of the Staged Filter.
