Le dimanche nous sommes sorti pour apprendre comment on prend un taxi en ville. \u00c0 Yaound\u00e9, c\u2019est plus difficile de prendre un taxi \u00e0 Yaound\u00e9 qu\u2019aux \u00c9tats-Unis. On doit attendre sur la route dans la direction qu\u2019on veut aller, discuter votre destination et tarif avec le chauffeur avant de vous embarquer, et prier qu\u2019un chauffeur soit d\u2019accord avec votre destination et tarif. Presque toujours, il y a les autres passagers d\u00e9j\u00e0 dans le taxi donc si votre destination n\u2019est pas sur le m\u00eame chemin, le chauffeur ne serait pas d\u2019accord. Parfois, \u00e7a prend beaucoup de temps, m\u00eame une demi-heure parce qu\u2019on peut demander plus de dix chauffeurs avant un chauffeur soit d\u2019accord.<\/p>\n

Nos nouvelle amies camerounaises: Jenny, Larissa, et Larissa<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Pour bien apprendre, nous avons eu l\u2019aide de trois \u00e9tudiantes Camerounaises\u00a0: Larissa, Larissa, et Jenny. Deux \u00e0 deux, nous avons pris les taxis avec les \u00e9tudiants Camerounaises de Mont\u00e9e Jouvence, au Carrefour MEEC, \u00e0 l\u2019UCAC, \u00e0 Dolce Vita, et \u00e0 Tsinga. Je suis all\u00e9e avec Larissa et Emma. Bien que chaque taxi \u00e9tait bond\u00e9, tous les chauffeurs et tous les autres passagers \u00e9taient tr\u00e8s gentils. Dans notre dernier taxi, nous avons eu une discussion avec un jeune gar\u00e7on Camerounais qui \u00e9tudie la science politique \u00e0 l\u2019universit\u00e9. Il m\u2019a demand\u00e9 si je suis Camerounaises, et j\u2019ai lui dit que je suis am\u00e9ricaine. Donc, il est devenue tr\u00e8s heureux parce qu\u2019il a voulu discuter de politique am\u00e9ricaine et pratiquer son anglais. Il nous a demand\u00e9 \u00e0 propos de Donald Trump, et il a dit qu\u2019il aime beaucoup Hillary Clinton. Nos tours en taxi avec Larissa, Larissa, et Jenny \u00e9taient vraiment des aventures. \u00c0 la fin de la journ\u00e9e, nous avons beaucoup de nouveaux amis\u00a0: les chauffeurs, les passagers, et les filles Camerounaises.<\/p>\n

On Sunday, we went out to learn how to take taxis in the different quartiers. It is much more difficult to take a taxi in Yaound\u00e9 than it is in the U.S. In Yaound\u00e9, you have to wait on the road in the precise direction you want to go, discuss your destination and negotiate the price with the driver before getting in, and just hope you find a driver that agrees to pick you up. There are almost always other passengers already in the taxi, so if your destination is not on the way to theirs, the driver is not going to take you. Sometimes, getting a taxi can take a lot of time, even half an hour because you may have to ask more than 10 drivers before one agrees to pick you up.<\/p>\n

Our new Cameroonian friends: Jenny, Larissa, and Larissa<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

In order to more quickly learn the art of taking taxis, we had the help of three Cameroonian students: Larissa, Larissa, and Jenny. We paired up and each group went with a Cameroonian student in taxis to various locations of importance throughout the city. We took nearly 10 taxis! Although each taxi was crowded with people, all the drivers and other passengers were very nice. In our last taxi, we had a discussion with a young Cameroonian guy who studies political science at a local university. He asked if I was Cameroonian and when I told him I was American he got really excited because he wanted to practice speaking English with me and my other American friends. Continuing our conversation, the guy asked us what we thought about Donald Trump and he told us that he preferred Hillary Clinton.
