For example, \u201cuuestro\u201d is pronounced \/uwest\u027eo\/.<\/p>\n<p>The grapheme \u201cch\u201d, \/t\u0283\/ (voiceless alveo-palatal affricate) in Modern Spanish, was pronounced \/\u0283\/ (voiceless alveo-palatal fricative) in Old Spanish.<\/p>\n<p>The c-cedilla, \u201c\u00e7\u201d is pronounced as \/s\/ (voiceless alveolar fricative) as opposed to a hard \/k\/ (voiceless velar stop) sound.<\/p>\n<p>In some cases, the \u201ci\u201d followed by \u201ce\u201d, such as in the word \u201cuermeios\u201d is pronounced as \/\u0292\/ (voiced alveo-palatal fricative), rather than the vowel \/i\/ (high front) before its transformation into the sound \/x\/ (voiceless velar fricative) in Modern Spanish.<\/p>\n<p>The grapheme \u201cy\u201d, which is replaced almost always by the grapheme \u201ci\u201d in Modern Spanish, is pronounced as \/i\/ (high front).
