Stemming from\u00a0\/\u0254\/ in Vulgar Latin, becomes \/w\u025b\/ in Old French, and then either \/\u0153\/ or\/\u00f8\/ in Modern French. Stemming from the\/o\/ in Vulgar Latin, it becomes \/eu\/ in Old French, and then either \/\u0153\/ or \/\u00f8\/ in Modern French.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0\u201cou,\u201d stemming from \/ol\/ in Latin,\u00a0is pronounced and written as\/ou\/ in Old French, which becomes \/u\/ in Modern French.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"line-height: 1.5\">The palatal cluster \u201cch\u201d\u00a0is pronounced as\u00a0\/t\u0283\/ in the Old French, and then becomes \/\u0283\/ for modern French.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The sounds \u201cc+e.i\u201d, \u201c<em>\u00e7 + a, o, u\u201d, \u201cz\u201d <\/em>are palatalized, creating a pronunciation that sounds more like \/dz or \/ts\/.
