Interactive User Interface
Exhibited: Recontres Darles ‘Night of the Year’ 2022 + Lakir Official Gallery Lahore 2021
Pannu and Mela blossom an intimate friendship on either side of the India-Pakistan border. The result is a web-based user interface that archives contemporary Lahore and Amritsar—two cities that long for one another, yet stare into each other’s blinding nationalisms. Attached above are screen recordings of the interface. The interface recordings were a part of Chennai Photo Biennale x 13Jara’s curation for the ‘Night of the Year’ at Recontres D’Arles this year in 2022.
Excerpt 1: Pyaar/Love – the images are blurred when far from each other, and gain clarity when overlapped.
Excerpt 2: Jang/ War- two scapes of insfrastructural nationalism, the Indian and Pakistani flags on overpasses
Excerpt 3: Pindi (the city)- Barber shop in Amritsar, owned by a Hindu Man originally from Rawalpindi in Pakistan
Excerpt 4: Zameen/Asman (Earth/Sky)- users build an overlaid collage with our archive of Amritsar and Lahore
Photoshop, House of Kal Art Residency, 2021
During the Karachi Residency, I spent three months visiting sites of grief in the city. This included graveyards, shrines and mausoleums. Through this process I also found myself going back to my belated father’s diary. Images of his handwriting coloured my experience, and helped me explore the spatiality of grief.
