On a failure, they cannot make a sound in any manner. This prevents other creatures from noticing it using hearing. A target who cannot make a sound, cannot use actions with the auditory or sonic tags and is prevented from casting spells that include Verbal Casting actions. A creature can choose to fail the save. Silence is on the Arcane and Occult Spell Lists.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Heighten (+2):<\/strong>&nbsp;Using a <strong>Level 4 Spell Slot and higher<\/strong>, if the target fails their save the silence affect emanates from them in a 10-foot aura. This aura prevents sounds, including effects with the auditory or sonic tag or spells with Verbal Casting actions, from working in the aura. Depending upon the position of the aura, a creature might be able to notice the lack of sound reaching it.
