You draw from a power source to create and manipulate the world around you. When you take Spellcasting you must select your Spellcasting source and style as well as spend the\u00a05 initial trait points<\/strong>. Below is a quick overview. For a greater depth and detail see the Magic<\/a> section and Gaining Spells<\/a> chapter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Your source is where your spellcasting comes from and is either Arcane, Divine, Occult, or Primal. Each of these four are tied to a spell list which dictates what spells you can cast.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Arcane Source (Prerequisite: none):<\/strong>\u00a0Arcane spells are those gained through long study of the ancient arts, often with dusty tomes, archaic scrolls, and other mystical tools. While there is no prerequisite for this source, you are limited to learning new spells through a spell book, scroll, or another person, even if you have the spontaneous casting style. You can, if you succeed at a hard DC, learn spells from the other spell lists.\u00a0This grants access to the\u00a0Arcane School\u00a0trait, which can be taken at any point after acquiring Arcane Spellcasting.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n Divine Source (Prerequisite: Devout Follower):<\/strong>\u00a0Divine spells are granted through some higher, powerful being or collected philosophy and are best used to fulfill that higher being\u2019s goals in the world. Other than maintaining your Devout Follower ability, there are no other requirements.\u00a0This grants access to the\u00a0Domains\u00a0trait, which can be taken at any point after acquiring Divine Spellcasting.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n Occult Source (Prerequisite: Patron):<\/strong>\u00a0The Occult spells draw on spiritual sources, neither from gods nor the world around and often needing no study of ancient tomes to master. Other than maintaining your Patron ability, there are no other requirements.\u00a0This grants access to the\u00a0Domains trait, which can be taken at any point after acquiring Occult Spellcasting.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n Primal Source (Prerequisite: Green Faith):<\/strong>\u00a0Finally, Primal spells draw their power from and affect the natural world around, causing both chaos and balance. Other than maintaining your Green Faith ability, there are no other requirements.\u00a0This grants access to the\u00a0Domains\u00a0trait, which can be taken at any point after acquiring Primal Spellcasting.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n The style of Spellcasting refers to if you are a prepared or spontaneous caster. As a\u00a0prepared caster<\/strong>\u00a0you chose your spells after a\u00a0Long Rest\u00a0and can cast as many of one spell as you have prepared before your next\u00a0Long Rest. As a\u00a0spontaneous caster<\/strong>\u00a0you have a small selection of permanent spells which you know and can cast as many times as you have spell slots before your next\u00a0Long Rest.<\/p>\n\n\n\n As a prepared caster, the initial 5 points grants you four cantrip (or level 0 spells) spell slots and two 1st level spell slots. After that, to gain more spell slots, see the table below. Note: Your Proficiency Score must be at least double<\/em> your highest spell level that you can cast.<\/p>\n\n\n\n As a spontaneous caster, the initial 5 points grants you infinite cantrip (or level 0 spells) spell slots and one 1st level spell slot. Spell slots for a spontaneous caster are the number per 24 hour of a particular level you can cast. The spells you know and can cast are called spells known. For the initial 5 points, you gain four cantrips known and two 1st level spells known. After that, to gain more spell slots, see the table below. Note: Your Proficiency Score must be at least\u00a0double<\/em> your highest spell level that you can cast.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Once you have the Spellcasting trait, you can purchase more spell slots and spells known, using the following tables.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The cost of your first spell of a higher level is 3 trait points. Again, your Proficiency Score must be at least double<\/em> your highest spell level that you can cast. For prepared casters, the 3 points grants them access to one spell slot of the new spell level.
