Callum Angus

Biography:

Cal Angus is a queer and trans writer from Western Massachusetts. He received his undergraduate degree in Geography and English from Mount Holyoke College, and then went on to receive his MFA in fiction from the University of Massachusetts Amherst.

He has extensive teaching experience, and has taught at Smith College, University of Massachusetts Amherst, and, most recently, Clark College. He has also been awarded fellowships from a variety of collectives, including Lambda Literary and the Signal Fire Foundation for the Arts.

Angus is a writer who focuses on queer stories tinged with both fantastical ideas and rooted authenticity. He believes in the queer and trans experience, and firmly stands behind trans individuals rights to transformation and self-creation. These ideas are alive in his stories, and exist as a resounding heartbeat throughout his aesthetic.

Angus has lead a colorful life and held a range of jobs from fish monger to news reporter, but has also spent time as an advocate for trans youth through the Trans Youth Equality Foundation. Angus states on his personal website that through this organization he “helped transgender youth and their families navigate the world.”

While he has substantial roots in Western Massachusetts, Cal has recently relocated to Portland, Oregon, where he teaches writing at Clark College.
