Daughter of King Minos and the half sister of the Minotaur. Ariadne helps the Greek hero Theseus to find his way through the labyrinth using a ball of thread. After Theseus slays the Minotaur she escapes with the hero, only to be abandoned while sleeping on the island of Naxos. Bacchus comes upon the sleeping mortal, falls in love with her, and makes her his immortal wife.
