Bio.

My name is Jennifer Villa and I am an artist from New York City currently studying at Mount Holyoke College. I specialize in Sculpture and video/performance art. The materials I mostly work with are newspaper, tape, wood, fabric and paint. An important part of my process is interviewing people about their lived experiences. My art is also greatly supplemented by my anthropological research. A lot of my work is large scale or in other ways inviting for the viewer to want to interact with them.

Food, identity and memories are ongoing themes in my artwork. I aim to strike viewers with is an intriguing and inviting art piece that with closer attention will leave them wondering about these topics of identity and culture. Artists that have been an inspiration to my work are Jennifer Karady and Kathleen Ryan. Influences beyond the art world that I draw to make my work include my identity as a queer Latina woman, the current environmental we live in and stigmas surrounding mental health.
