Summary for this week: The major goal for this week is completing the Sketch designs, turning them into workable prototypes on InVision and starting Loop11 test.

[Cici Chen] Week 5: 3/19-3/26

The major goal for this week is focusing on analyzing and re-designing wireframes and working on the prototype.

Goals:
Finished: Created second persona on Sketch (Sara) and got access to Sketch

Finished: Created low-fidelity wireframes on Balsamiq and discuss with Dawn

Finished: Refined the low-fidelity wireframes on Balsamiq (filter bar and display bar)

Finished: Collect icon for top 5 resources and wheelchair

Started/To be continued: Design prototype using Sketch and InVision

Summary for this week: This week, we refine the Balsamiq wireframes and develop the Sketch prototypes accordingly (from Tien).

[Cici Chen] Week 4: 2/27 – 3/8

The major goal for this week is focusing on studying the data we collected from interviews and start thinking about our design options.

Goals:
Finished: Competitive research on interesting design
Icons: UCLA Library
Map and Filter: SUNY Buffalo Library
Available option: UCL Library

To be continued: Created first persona. (Need to change the template and add more information about user behaviors)

Started/To be continued: Analyse survey data about five major concern and amenities. Survey link: Survey on Study and Learning Spaces

Finished: Studied about interview responses and got to know students’ way of using learning and study spaces

Summary for this week:
This week Tien and I are trying to have more people complete our survey. Based on the survey result, we will be able to develop our first step of design, including persona, prototype. We looked at other similar school’s library and airport website to get an idea of how the page should look like, should we use interaction map or stay at the tradition layout.

[Cici Chen] Week 3: 2/20 – 2/26

The major goal for this week is focusing on studying the data we collected from interviews and start thinking about our design options.

Goals:
Finished: Interviewed more people from non-STEM major to get more diverse date.

Finished: Studied about interview responses and got to know students’ way of using learning and study spaces

Finished: Generated spreadsheet based on interview responses for further needed

Finished: Studied about interview responses and got to know students’ way of using learning and study spaces

Finished: Weekly reading A Project Guide to Creating UX Design Chapter 6 – 7

Started/To be continued: Write official interview report.

Started/To be continued: Create a short survey about location, size, amenities preference. (Probably share on FB to get more response)

Finished: Find some interesting example of map:Boston Public Library

Summary for this week:
Before we had interviews with students, Tien and I put lots of attention on how to make the reverse system easier. However, as the interview process was going on, we realized that people do not care about if the room is reservable or not that much. All interviewers have some experiences with the library already which means they already have a preference for where they want to study. Thus, changing the current reserve system can benefit some students who like to use individual rooms but this does not cover all users’ needs of our library. Most response I got from the question “Why do you choose here to study” is there are available seats. One student mentioned, “I fell like the library is not doing any advertisement on some LSS.” She said every time when she goes to the individual room on 5th floor, there will always have a room available even during reading days. Thus, I think we can switch our goal to help the student to use the library space better.

[Cici Chen] Week 2: 2/13 – 2/19

The major goal for this week is focusing on the preparation and conduction of the first interview for redesign the Learning and Study Space web page.

Goals:
Finished: Edited interview quesitons which will be able to explore more user storie and help to meet the users’ needs.

Finished: Conducted five interviews with random students in library and class buildings.

Finished: Weekly reading Empathy – How to Improve Your Designs by Developing Empathy for Your Target Group.

Started/To be continued: Write interview summary and generated the follow up interview questions.

Summary for this week:
Dawn led a design principle session on Tuesday morning which gave us an idea about what type of question can help us to explore the user story better. Interview questions are not only limited to how students using LITS space but also other spaces. We want to know if there is any other competitors and the reason why students are using them instead of LITS space.

We also studied about our persona a little bit which will be female college student with diverse background and same level of education. Persona will be varied based on the information we gathered from interviews. Our goal is creating all different types of persona that can cover the way of MHC student using LITS study space.

For follow up interview we would like to cover more about how to involve the policy of using LITS study spaces to provide a library experience, including supples and sign up process.

[Cici Chen] Week1 – 2/05 -2/11

Week 1

This weekly plan applied to both Cici and Tien since all the work was collaborations. The major goal for this week is to have an idea about what projects we will be working on for this semester and have the first study case started.
Goals:
  • Started/Postponed: Look over the Information Architecture diagram and map areas of interests.
    • Cici:
    • Operation hours
    • Easy way to inform people about software that LITS supports
    • Better system for fines and payments
  • Started: Create IS Website (Still in process of learning how to use Commons)
  • Finished: Visit study spaces and LITS website
  • Finished: Research on other university’s library website
  • Started/To be continued(TBC): List more than 10 interview questions (Tien will transform them into Google Form and probably have Dawn go over the questions before conducting interviews)
Summary for this week:
At the beginning, we were not sure how to start this independent study since not that much instruction was given but the meeting with Dawn on last Wednesday was really helpful. We started with visiting study and meeting spaces and different library websites to get a general idea of what kind of information might be missing on our LITS website. On Sunday, Tien and I met for two hours to generate a list of interview questions and create our study web page. Also, we looked through the LITS Information Architecture diagram and mapped couple areas of interest (see above).
