Reflection
Throughout this project there were two perspectives, mine and my partners. We both had our own ideas and worked together to fix any problem along the way. We mostly struggled with the coding part, but we went to TA hours for help. The reason for most of our failures was because the arduino board was not able to store enough information. Instead of detecting the captive touch before playing the melody, it would play the song continuously. We eventually used a special code given to us by one of our TA’s. This shows our ability to adapt to a difficult situation. Even though we faced a problem, we managed to work through it by reaching out for help.
Although at first, I thought it would be difficult to coordinate with someone else, it actually made the process much easier. We decided to work together throughout the process rather than dividing it by 50/50 to work by ourselves; that way we would get each other’s opinion. If I compare it to the previous projects when I worked by myself, it was nice to have someone else’s perspective for a better outcome. We initially wanted our Halloween decoration to also light up at the same time the music began to play, but we had to cross it out because we were already struggling with the musical part. Having this second opinion also helps to come up with a conclusion faster.
Thinking back, when I worked on my senior project I was having a difficult time. I should’ve reached out to friends to get a new perspective whenever I felt stuck. It would have saved me a lot of time instead of going around in circles, and I would have stressed less. It wasn’t until almost the very end when someone gave me the choice to start a new project. Even though I had to start from zero, I was more productive and had a better outcome than I expected. I will use cognitive flexibility for future projects and also when choosing courses because I know what to expect and how to adapt better to new situations.
