A Tradition Begins: The Glascock Briefcase

Katherine Irene Glascock, class of 1922, was the editor-in-chief of The Mount Holyoke News during her senior year. After Glascock’s unexpected death in 1923, the MHN contributed towards the prize money for the annual Glascock Poetry Competition, created in Glascock’s memory in 1923. The same year, a briefcase with the initials of every editor-in-chief since 1918 engraved on it was dedicated to MHN. The editorial staff created a tradition of having each new editor-in-chief’s name engraved on the briefcase until its donation to the library in 1951.
