5 College Student Policy

At Fimbel Maker and Innovation Lab, it is our goal to assist as many students as possible with their projects, and encourage students to integrate methods of making into their academic and personal lives.

As we have limited resources and staffing, it is our policy to prioritize the use of the space for Mount Holyoke students (or those taking classes at Mount Holyoke College), and for Mount Holyoke faculty and staff. We will review requests from 5 college students and guests to use the space for academic projects on a case by case basis, as we analyze demand. We currently do not have the resources to open up Fimbel Lab to personal projects for those outside the Mount Holyoke community.

We have weekly workshops with limited seats. 5 college students are welcome to put their name on the waitlist, and will be let in the night of the workshop if space allows.
For any questions about this policy, please email fimbellab@mtholyoke.edu

Fimbel Core Values

The Fimbel Maker & Innovation Lab enables all members of the Mount Holyoke community to follow their creativity, curiosity and passions in a safe and supportive environment that encourages exploration.

To keep the space welcoming to novices and experts alike, please adhere to our values:

Be Welcoming and Respectful of Others.

All are welcome in the space, regardless of skill level, background or project.  This is a judgment-free space.

Clean Up After Yourself.

A shared space must be an organized space, with tools in their places and surfaces ready for the next person to work.

Be Safe. Use Common Sense.

  • Speak up if you see others being unsafe.
  • Be aware of your surroundings.
  • Many of our tools require training or require supervision for access. See policies and equipment in the Fimbel Maker & Innovation Lab Handbook for more information. Do not use any tool if you have not been trained on it.

Ask Questions. Be Curious.

  • Ask if you are uncertain.
  • The staff is here to help you learn.
  • Help those around you who have questions.
