Fragment of a Stele, Head of a Slave Girl
Pentelic marble.
Greek relief; IV. C.B.C.
Height of vertical side, 11 inches.
Height of relief, 2 inches.
Condition: long exposure has given the marble a rich brown patina, except at the wrist where a later, but still ancient fracture, has a creamy color; recent nick on bridge of nose, white.
Provenance: Picked up by a visitor on site of Aptera, Crete.
