Samedi matin, je suis sortie pour le marché avec ma sœur Raissa. D’abord, nous sommes allées à la Poissonnerie Congelcam et après, nous avons traversé la rue pour acheter des plantains. Puis, nous avons marché à l’intérieur du marché pour acheter des assaisonnements et des condiments. Ensuite, nous sommes allées au supermarché pour acheter des ingrédients pour faire un gâteau. Finalement, nous avons acheté des poulets vivants ! C’était une très nouvelle expérience pour moi, parce que je n’ai jamais acheté un poulet vivant. Au contraire, ma sœur est très habituée aux poulets vivants. Elle a tenu facilement les poulets par les pieds et elle a examiné le contour de chaque poulet. Après elle a choisi cinq poulets, nous les avons amené pour tuer et nettoyer. Quand nous sommes arrivées chez nous, j’ai aidé Raissa à couper les poulets en morceaux. Samedi après midi, j’ai rencontré Ariane et les autres filles pour prendre nos pagnes du 8 mars. Le soir, j’ai pris le diner avec Mama et Papa Ngougo et nous avons mangé le poisson que Raissa et moi avons acheté à Congelcam.

Saturday morning, I went out to the market with my host sister Raissa. First we went to Congelcam Fishery where most Cameroonians buy their fish. Afterwards, we crossed the street to buy a bunch of plantains (literally a bunch, like right of the tree). Then, we walked into the market to buy seasonings and condiments. Next, we went to the market to buy ingredients to make a cake. Finally, we bought live chickens! It was quite an experience for me because I have never bought a live chicken, not to mention that I’m also scared of birds. On the contrary, my host sister is very used to live chickens. She easily held the chickens upside down by their feet and examined the contour of each chicken. After she chose five chickens, we took them across the street to a shack where they killed and cleaned the chickens. When we got home, I helped Raissa cut the clean chicken into small pieces (like ones Americans would buy in the store). Saturday afternoon, I met up with Ariane and the other girls in my program to go pickup our outfits for the International Day of the Woman (March 8). In the evening, I had dinner with my host parents and we ate the fish Raissa and I had bought at Congelcam earlier that day.
