Dimanche était l’anniversaire d’Ariane, alors nous sommes allées chez Ariane pour célébrer. Chez Ariane, nous avons fait les beignets, nous avons nagé, et nous avons bien mangé. Après la fête, je suis rentrée chez moi où il y avait une grande réunion de famille. Pendant la réunion, j’ai parlé avec la famille et j’ai aidé mes sœurs et leurs cousines à servir la famille et laver les vaisselles. C’était une très bonne réunion !

On Sunday, we had a birthday party for Ariane, the director of my study abroad program. To celebrate, we went to Ariane’s house, hung out with her family, made beignets, went swimming, and then ate a feast. After the party, I returned home to a large family gathering at my house. During the gathering, I hung out with the family, played with the younger children, and helped my host sisters and their cousins serve the family and wash the dishes, the traditional tasks for young adults in Cameroonian homes when there are visitors.
