Le mercredi, il y avait le défilé de la journée internationale de la femme. Nous avons rencontré les travailleurs de l’ambassade et les volontaires du Peace Corps à l’ambassade des Etats-Unis à 8h00, tout le monde habillé dans le tissu du 8 mars. Environ 9h00, nous sommes parties en bus pour Avenue Kennedy où le défilé aura lieu. Quand nous sommes arrivés au défilé, nous avons assis et nous avons attendu deux heures. Donc, nous avons eu beaucoup de temps pour écouter aux bandes et pour en jouir les deux grandes affiches de Madame Chantal Biya, la femme du président camerounais. Et puis le défilé a commencé. Pendant le défilé, beaucoup d’associations, d’entreprises, d’églises, d’organisations, et de ministères ont marché. Nous avons joint le défilé au milieu et nous avons marché devant Madame Chantal Biya et devant des cameras du télévision national du Cameroun. Le défilé du 8 mars était une expérience spéciale, puissante, et très mémorable.

On Wednesday, March 8 there was a large parade in honor of International Women’s Day. My study abroad program had the rare opportunity to march in the parade with the U.S. Embassy of Cameroon. Wednesday morning at 8am, we met workers from the Embassy and U.S. Peace Corps volunteers at the U.S. Embassy. Everyone at the Embassy, my friends, and I were dressed in the International Women’s Day fabric. Around 9am, we took a bus together to Kennedy Avenue where the parade would take place. When we arrived at the parade, we sat and waited for two hours before the parade began. Thus, we had plenty of time to enjoy the two enormous posters of Madame Chantal Biya, the First Lady of Cameroon. Finally, the parade began! Thousands of women from several associations, businesses, churches, organizations, and government ministries marched in the parade. We joined the parade right in the middle and marched in front of Madame Biya on Cameroonian national television. As a young woman, the International Women’s Day parade was a very special, memorable, and empowering experience for me.
