Spell: Contingency ~ Level 7

abjuration, magical

  • Casting Time: 10 minutes; Material, Somatic, and Verbal
  • Duration: 24 hours

You prepare a spell to trigger later. While casting Contingency, you must also cast another spell of 4th level or lower that has a casting time of no more than three actions. You must pay any appropriate costs for the second spell. This companion spell must be one that can affect you. You must make any decisions for the second spell when you cast Contingency, such as choosing tag types for Resist Energy.

When you cast Contingency, choose a trigger under which the second spell will be cast, using the same restrictions as the trigger for a Ready action. You can cause the companion spell to come into effect as a reaction with that trigger. It affects only you, even if it would normally affect more creatures. If you define complicated conditions, as determined by the GM, the trigger might fail.

If you cast Contingency again before the first was triggered, the newer one supersedes the older casting. Contingency is on the Arcane Spell List.

Heighten (+1): For each Spell Slot of the Heightened Spell Levels (8, 9, 10), increase the maximum spell level of the companion spell by 1.
