Giant

The tales tell that far back in their ancient history, giants were slaves to some form of king. Their stories vary from community to community, but their former status as slaves is one thread that is common in the lore of every community. The stories tell of how they fought their oppressors and earned their freedom. As a result, giants prize their own and others liberty. They will fight to stay free or free others and few things are capable of breaking individuals’ will to live. Most individuals tend to be law-abiding and respectful, which other ancestry’s commonly see in direct opposition to their culture where physical fights are used to solve conflicts.

Physical Description: Giants are one of the largest ancestries, towering above even merfolk and nagaji. Their size makes them imposing. Their skin tones range from nearly complete black to pale white, while their hair is almost always dark in color. The rare individual might have red hair and their eyes typically range from blue to green. Most giants tend to wear practical clothing that reflects the environment or very heavy armor for combat. The only exception to this practical approach is during important social gathering when their clothing tends to cover less. This is due to the pride that most giants take in their bodies, physical looks, and prowess. In combat, they prefer to wear heavy armor, taking advantage of their natural strength and stature.

Society: Giants most commonly organize themselves into nomadic and shifting communities, following charismatic and wise leaders for brief periods. Many have a tendency to drift into and out of these communities over time, while a portion of them may split out and start a new community. When enemies gather, empires rise, or war looms, individual communities commonly unite under their strongest and wisest leaders, protecting each other from the threat of oppression. In times of peace, they splinter into hundreds of individual communities or family units, enjoying the freedom they hold so dear. As societies go, giants are generally composed of hunters, taking down beasts that stalk the wilderness. Giants enjoy dancing, drinking and games of physical prowess such as wrestling, running, and spear throwing.

Relations: Giants appreciate the open nature of humans and half-elves and can sympathize with how orcs, tielflings, and shadowlings sometimes feel outside of society. Elves with their slow pace, dwarves and merfolk with their rigid societies generally make giants uncomfortable. Most of the other ancestries are welcomed based on their behavior, although the carelessness of frogfolk, halflings, and gnomes worry giants, who believe that it will lead to these smaller races being taken advantage of and, therefore, possible subservience.

Alignment and Religion: Worshiping gods relating to freedom, nature, summer, and the hunt, giants are devout but very naturalistic. They manifest their worship with totem poles, believing the gods to be pleased with depictions of their power, thus protecting their communities from harm. Most tend to be communally or integrity aligned, if not both, striving to help their communities and others as well as they can. This does not mean that an individual will not resort to violence at a sign of cruelty or harmful behavior. Indeed, to most giants, jail, incarceration, and slavery are all seen as equally bad and to be fought to the last breath.

Adventurers Most giants are driven into adventuring by wanderlust and a wish to learn more about the world around them. Some are driven by religious conviction, while others understand that they will help their tribe the most by making the world a safer place. Very few adventure to make money, greed is a strange concept to most half-giants.
