Spell: Insect Form ~ Level 3

You transform into a Medium insect form fit for battle. You count as an animal in addition to your normal tags. Your gear is absorbed into you and their constant abilities still function, but you cannot activate them. Reduce your number of actions per turn by 1. When you cast this spell, you chose one of the following and gain the attacks, Speeds, and special abilities listed:

  • Ant (Medium)
    • Speed: 30 feet, Climb 30 feet
    • Melee Attack: Mandibles (unarmed) with a number of d6s bludgeoning damage equal to half your Proficiency Score
  • Beetle (Medium)
    • Speed:25 feet
    • Melee Attack: Mandibles (unarmed) with a number of d10s bludgeoning damage equal to half your Proficiency Score
  • Centipede (Medium)
    • Speed: 25 feet, Climb 25 feet
    • Senses: Dark vision
    • Melee Attack: Mandibles (unarmed) with a number of d8s piercing damage equal to half your Proficiency Score plus 6 Persistent Damage with the poison tag
  • Mantis (Medium)
    • Speed: 40 feet
    • Senses: Scent
    • Melee Attack: Foreleg (unarmed) with a number of d8s bludgeoning damage equal to half your Proficiency Score
  • Scorpion (Medium)
    • Speed: 40 feet
    • Senses: Dark vision, Tremor sense (60 feet)
    • Melee Attack: Stinger (unarmed) with a number of d8s piercing damage equal to half your Proficiency Score plus Persistent Damage with the poison tag per damage
    • Melee Attack: Pincer (agile, unarmed) with a number of d6s bludgeoning damage equal to half your Proficiency Score
  • Spider (Medium)
    • Speed: 25 feet, Climb 25 feet
    • Senses: Dark vision
    • Melee Attack: Fangs (unarmed) with a number of d6s piercing damage equal to half your Proficiency Score plus 6 Persistent Damage with the poison tag
    • Ranged Attack: Web (range 20 feet, unarmed) inflicts the Entangled condition on the target for a round

You can choose a more specific type of animal to turn into, such as a ladybug or scarab for beetle. You also gain the following statistical changes:

  • Ability Score: +3 Dexterity bonus
  • Armor Class: +1 Natural Armor, ignore Armor Check Penalty and Speed Penalty from gear
  • Hit Points: +5 temporary Hit Points
  • Attacks: Proficient with the listed attack(s), +3 damage
  • Senses: Gain low vision (60 feet)
  • Skills: Gain advantage to Acrobatics checks

These special statistics can be adjusted only by Insight bonuses, Assist bonuses, advantage, and disadvantage. Your form prevents you from casting spells, speaking, or taking most manipulate actions that require hands. The GM decides if there is doubt about an action. Insect Form is on the Primal Spell List.

Heighten (+2): For each Spell Slot of the Heightened Spell Levels (5, 7, 9), your form increases a size step, your Natural Armor increases by 1, your temporary Hit Points increase by 5, and your damage bonus increases by 2. If your size is Large, your attacks gain Reach of 10 feet. You must have enough space to expand, or the spell is lost. Each size has a Size bonus or penalty to AC: –1 for Large, –2 for Huge, –4 for Gargantuan, –8 for Colossal.

Level 5 or 6 Spell Slot. The following are instead of lower-level versions:

  • Size: Large (–1 AC)
  • Natural Armor: +2
  • Hit Points: +10 temporary hit points
  • Attacks: +5 damage

Level 7 or 8 Spell Slot. The following are instead of lower-level versions:

  • Size: Huge (–2 AC)
  • Natural Armor: +3
  • Hit Points: +15 temporary hit points
  • Attacks: +7 damage

Level 9 Spell Slot and higher. The following are instead of lower-level versions:

  • Size: Gargantuan (–4 AC)
  • Natural Armor: +4
  • Hit Points: +20 temporary hit points
  • Attacks: +9 damage
