Metamagic

Prerequisite: Magic Adapt

Tags: Multiple

Cost: 7 Points

You have studied the arts of magic and learned to test its bounds. When you take this trait, select one of the following:

  • Careful Spell. When you cast a spell with an area of effect, you can shield a number of creatures in the area up to a quarter of your Proficiency Score. Shielded creatures do not need to make any saves or other defensive actions.
  • Empower Spell. Increase all spell variables by 50%, such as the number of damage dice.
  • Enlarge Spell. Double the spell’s range.
  • Extend Spell. Double the spell’s duration.
  • Heighten Spell. Treat the spell as one heightening higher.
  • Maximize Spell (Prerequisite: Empower Spell Metamagic). Maximize all spell variables, so that all variables result in the highest values possible.
  • Quicken Spell. Reduce the number of actions to cast a spell by one to a minimum casting time of a free action.
  • Seeking Spell. When you cast a spell that requires a Spell Attack, you can roll with advantage.
  • Silent Spell. Cast a spell without the verbal components. It still takes the same number of actions but you can cast the spell while in conditions that would prevent spells with verbal components.
  • Still Spell. Cast a spell without the somatic components. It still takes the same number of actions but you can cast the spell while in conditions that would prevent spells with somatic components.
  • Subtle Spell (Prerequisite: Silent Spell, Still Spell). Cast a spell without the somatic or verbal components. It still takes the same number of actions but you can cast the spell while in conditions that would prevent or notice spells with somatic and verbal components.
  • Transmute Spell. Alter the damage of a spell. If a spell deals one of the following types of damage, you can change it to another on the list: acid, cold, electricity, fire, poison, or sonic. The spell changes tags to match.
  • Twin Spell (Prerequisite: Quick Spell Metamagic). Cast the same spell twice for the action cost of a single casting. All variables are determined once and applied to both spells and a spell whose effects do not stack are not affected by Twin Spell. A single Dispel Magic as a reaction does counteract both castings of a spell cast with Twin Spell.
  • Widen Spell. Double the spell’s area.

You can use your metamagic ability a number of times per day equal to your Proficiency Score. As a free action, you can use Metamagic once per round and only apply a single effect to any one spell. If the effect does not change the spell, the ability is wasted. For example, Extend Duration would not change Acid Arrow. This trait can be taken multiple times, each time you select a different metamagic ability.
