A spellbook holds the written knowledge necessary to learn and prepare various spells, a necessity for casters with an arcane source and a useful luxury for other spellcasters looking to discover additional spells. Each spellbook can hold up to 100 spells. The price listed is for a blank spellbook. For each spell already listed in a book, add an additional cost based on the following table:
Spell Level | Cost |
---|---|
1st Level Spell | 5 sp |
2nd Level Spell | 8 sp |
3rd Level Spell | 13 sp |
4th Level Spell | 2 gp |
5th Level Spell | 3 gp |
6th Level Spell | 6 gp |
7th Level Spell | 9 gp |
8th Level Spell | 14 gp |
9th Level Spell | 23 gp |
10th Level Spell | 38 gp |
Spellbooks store the spells that an arcane caster knows. And, for the most part, an arcane caster may never need to ‘purchase’ new spells for their book. Most arcane casters (or others who like having such a tool) will add their new spells to their spellbooks themselves. Such additions cost nothing.
The reason there exists prices for spells in a spellbook by level is twofold. Firstly, for any partly filled spellbook, one can calculate its cost by totaling the individual cost that each spell (by its level) adds to the item. Secondly, if there is ever an instance where an arcane caster is unable to add the spell themself to the book, they may hire someone else to add the spell. If added this way, it is considered to be ‘automatically’ learned and the caster need only pay for the service in silver (or gold) and the trait points (they do not need to spend the ten minutes themselves or make an arcane check).
