This is the most common form of scrying device, a crystal sphere about 6 inches in diameter. So well-known are these items that many so-called oracles or fortune-tellers use similar appearing, but completely non-magical, replicas of these items to ply their trades. A person can use a magical crystal ball to see over virtually any distance or into other planes of existence, as with the spell Scrying with a Will save to negate depending on the quality. A crystal ball can be used multiple times per day but the DC to resist its power decreases by 1 for each additional use.
Additional spells can be interwoven with the crystal ball’s power. Adding a See Invisibility spell increases the price by 360 silvers, adding a Mind Reading spell increases the price by 900 silvers (the Will DC is equal to that of the crystal ball’s Scrying Will DC), adding a Telepathy spell increases the price by 2,000 silvers, and adding a True Seeing spell increases the price by 8,000 silvers. Unless otherwise listed, a crystal ball is an uncommon item. Adjust the rarity according to all interwoven spell prices added to the base price of the type of crystal ball.
- Minor (1,000 silvers). The Will DC is 25.
- Lesser (3,000 silvers). The Will DC is 30. This item is rare.
- Basic (6,500 silvers). The Will DC is 35. This item is very rare.
- Greater (11,000 silvers). The Will DC is 40. This item is very rare.
- True (18,000 silvers). The Will DC is 45. This item is legendary.
Crafting Requirements: You must supply a casting of Scrying along with any other spells interwoven to use with the crystal ball.
