Charisma
Deception represents one’s ability to lie and craft disguises. It is commonly used during role play encounters when trying to present a falsehood, but it can be used during combat to trick opponents.
Disguise
- 10 minutes
- Proficient Only: Yes, but can attempt Untrained; requires a Disguise Kit or similar disguise set up
You can use Deception to create a disguise. At the GM’s discretion, a disguise can provide a bonus to any applicable Lie actions using Deception. Your Disguise check becomes the DC for any Insight or Perception check to notice the disguise.
Feint
- Single Action
- Proficient Only: Yes, but can attempt Untrained
During combat, you can use Deception to fake an attack through a Feint action. This check is made against your opponent’s Passive Perception. If successful, you gain advantage on your melee attacks for the round against that opponent.
Lie
- Single Action
- Proficient Only: No
The most common use of Deception is to deceive someone through use of the Lie action. This can be anything from a full falsehood to a trivial lie depending on the circumstances. This is against a creature’s Passive Insight unless they are actively evaluating your words for truth. If you are successful, you may or may not change the other creature’s attitude towards you depending on the circumstances. If you fail, the other creature likely shifts one step closer to hostile on the scale below.
Hostile <–> Unfriendly <–> Indifferent <–> Friendly <–> Helpful
