Expertise
- Single Action
- Proficient Only: Yes
You can use Profession to remember information pertaining to your type of work. This can replace other types of skills where pertinent, such as a Profession Diplomat instead of a Diplomacy check. If it is used to replace another skill, the DC is either the same as it would be for the other skill if they are extremely similar, such as the example above, or increase by 5 to 10 points if the profession is not an exact fit to the action.
You can also recall knowledge with Expertise as you do with other skills. Common knowledge is often a DC 10 or does not require a check while more specific knowledge is a DC 15. Recalling precise and more extensive details increases the DC to 20. Very obscure information is often a DC 25 or 30, and secrets might not even allow a success without the necessary research or resources. Resources, such as books or experts on a subject, can reduce the DC as low as 10.
Work
- 8 hours
- Proficient Only: No
To work a Profession can be used to work a job for the day and earn income. If you are not proficient in Profession you can still earn an income as an unskilled laborer. See Beyond the Skill Basics, for more about how to earn an income with skill checks. Generally, this DC is 15, but more specialized work can increase to 20 or 25 with greater rewards if successful.
