The following are the common creatures which can be summoned through the Summon Creature spell. They are sorted into the Spell Level required to summon the creature.
Creatures beyond these lists might be summoned if they have the aberration, construct, humanoid, mystical, outsider, or undead tags. In such cases, use their Challenge Rating to determine which Spell Level would be required, as indicated in the list headers below.
Important Notes to Summoners:
A creature with an Intelligence Score of 7 or lower will follow basic commands to attack targets of your choosing. If you can communicate with the summoned creature, you can give more detailed instructions. Such a creature only has 2 actions with no reactions, and you must maintain an action to concentrate on the summoning.
If you cease to concentrate, the spell’s duration ends, or the summoned creature is reduced to 0 hit points, the summoned creature is returned to where it was summoned from.
A creature with an Intelligence Score of 8 or higher may make a Will Save with disadvantage against your Spell DC. If the save is successful, the creature is free from your command and can choose whatever actions it wishes to take. If the caster of a freed creature dies, the creature remains summoned permanently until moved by other magic to another location or plane.
A creature summoned with the construct tag has a 20-50% chance of attracting the attention of its creator to the caster’s location. This depends on many factors and is left to GM discretion.
