This month’s Language Of The Month is Dutch!

Dutch is a West Germanic language spoken in the Netherlands, Belgium, Suriname, and other countries. It shares roots with English, German, and Scandinavian languages, and is one of the oldest recorded languages in Europe. Around 25 million people speak this language as their first language, but many English speakers unknowingly borrow words with Dutch roots such as “cookie”, “landscape”, and “spook”. Pictured here are the Keukenhof Tulip Gardens, located only 40 kilometers from the centre of Amsterdam in the Netherlands.
